Academic Programs
The
PAMI Summer Certificate Program
PAMI's Summer Certificate Program offers certificates in international
management and international entrepreneurship.
Students must complete either three PAMI courses or two PAMI courses and
one related area studies or language course. Students earn academic credits
for either undergraduate or graduate courses in the program. Summer classes
in the PAMI program are open to students from non-business disciplines
and others interested in international business. The varied backgrounds
of the students, many of whom already have real-world experience, add
to the value of these classes. Faculty are drawn from the University of
Hawai'i and other universities around the world.
The
course work for the certificate in international management can include
marketing, finance, accounting, business economics, plus courses in Asian
languages or Asian Studies, international communication, international
relations, etc. The aim is to extend the scope of the business student
beyond a focus on just business courses, and to introduce students in
other disciplines to a study of international business related to their
potential career progress. The course work for the certificate in international
entrepreneurship focus on venture capital, financing as well as business
plan development.
**NEW** - How To Do Business With Americans
This program is designed to teach Asian business professionals how to overcome the many challenges that are associated with creating business deals and relationships in the American marketplace. After completing this program, students will have a firm understanding of the skills and strategies that are needed to succeed in the world's largest market.
The course will consist of seven parts that will be completed during a two week stay at the University of Hawaii. In the first half of the program, students will learn how to create a favorable first impression, how to build strong business relationships and how to negotiate with Americans. The second half of the program focuses on the key legal issues and strategies that will enable a company to bring its products to the American market. Throughout the program, Dr. Day will provide practical suggestions for avoiding the common mistakes that many international firms make when attempting to enter the U.S. marketplace.
Visiting Scholars and Executives Program
Visiting Scholars and Executives Program:
PAMI is launching an exciting new certificate program for
visiting academics and business professionals. This program aims to provide
the participants with an opportunity for continued professional development
in international business concepts, trends and methodologies focused on the
Asia- Pacific region. Participants will be able to consult with CBA and
visiting faculty and observe courses of their choice covering topics such as:
Japanese Finance, Cross-Cultural Management, Chinese Marketing, International
Human Resource Management, Global Accounting, and many others. These courses
utilize the Asia-Pacific expertise of the University of Hawaii faculty as well
as featuring visiting faculty from some of the foremost universities around
the world. Recent professors have come from Thunderbird University (US),
McGill University (Canada), the University of Michigan (US), Hong Kong
University of Science and Technology and Gavle University (Sweden).
Field
Study Abroad: Industry in Asia
The
Field Study Abroad: Industry in Asia offered each summer in conjunction
with the PAMI International Summer Certificate Program, gives up to 25
business students the opportunity to observe first-hand the developing
economies of Asian countries such as China, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand,
and Vietnam. Students visit factories, businesses, embassies and universities
as well as cultural sites, and complete a rigorous economic analysis of
the region.
Faculty
Development in International Business Program
The
Faculty Development in International Business Program is a two-week
program in Hawaii, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Thailand. The program
is designed to aid professors and administrators from universities worldwide
in development of new international business courses or enrichment of
existing ones at their home institutions. This program is offered in cooperation
with the UH Center
for International Business Education and Research.
Faculty
and Student Exchanges
PAMI
facilitates exchange programs for faculty and students with universities
in Asia and Europe in cooperation with the academic departments and the
UH College of Business Administration Office of Student Academic Services.
